SJCCC History & Audience
From 2004-2016, Texas A&M University Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), formerly known as Student Counseling Service, hosted an annual 2-day conference called “College Counseling in a Multicultural World”. This conference focused on providing counseling services to various diverse student populations in a college counseling environment. In 2017, “College Counseling in a Multicultural World” became the “Social Justice in College Counseling Conference,” shifting focus to topics directly addressing how systemic variables of power, privilege and oppression impact college students from marginalized backgrounds. SJCCC strives to provide knowledge and skills to mental health providers within college counseling centers and universities to better serve these students.
