Approach to Therapy and Professional Interests

My approach to therapy is rooted in the theory of intersectionality. Thus, I recognize the importance of considering each counterpart of an individual to understand them as a whole. My work with clients is integrative with a foundation in primary third wave behavioral approaches through a multicultural lens. I believe clients should be viewed in the context of their culture that way I can better comprehend how they interact with the world and also how they view themselves within that culture. Because the US is a melting pot enriched with various cultures, it is paramount that I consider not only majority but sub cultures as well. I will not steer away from frequently engaging clients in deep discussions about their unique cultural experiences. I will not only explore their experiences but utilize appropriate self-disclosures to establish and maintain our therapeutic relationship. Due to the complexity of humans, tailoring interventions to meet their needs is chief in my work. I desire to get to know my clients wholeheartedly by creating an environment in which they feel safe to go on this journey through a collaborative effort.

My professional interests include multiculturalism, social justice, cultural and intergenerational trauma, African American psychology, emergence of pop-culture and psychological concepts, and social media impacts on mental health.

Personal Statement on Diversity and Social Justice

My stance on diversity and social justice is rooted in ongoing introspection, curiosity, humility, courage, and knowledge . As a Black woman, a double minority, I recognize the significance of acknowledging all identifies of an individual. I consider myself a social justice advocate and so it is my duty to address all situations that provides opportunities for advocacy. I recognize that we all possess some form of privilege, thus, it is my mission to use that privilege where needed.

Personal Interests

I am a proud native of Louisiana. As you can imagine, my spare time includes traveling home every chance I get to engage in our unique and rich culture. I am a lover of the arts which includes engaging with music, painting, and theatre. I am also very family oriented and so family time is my “happy place.” Finally, I am hugely into Marvel movies and am always looking forward to the latest installments.
