Gatekeeper Training

March 23, 2020 by mcolson

Question Persuade Refer (QPR) offers a traditional approach to understanding the impact and prevalence of suicide as well as the intervention tools.  This training prepares participants to recognize the warning signs, know what to say to someone who might be at risk for suicide and where to refer individuals for help.

QPR Training Dates:

  • Friday, April 3 from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.
  • Monday, April 6 from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 28 from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m.

QPR training is offered to a wide variety of people and groups on campus; students, faculty, and staff at Texas A&M are all invited to participate in our training.  This year, we have facilitated QPR trainings for groups such as Residence Life, Rec Sports, and FLED among others.  We look forward to helping more individuals and groups on campus become QPR trained.

Campus Connect is an interactive training providing college students opportunities to enhance their knowledge, awareness, and skills concerning college student suicide.  This training focuses on increasing gatekeepers' knowledge about students in a suicidal crisis, and directly ask students about their suicidal thoughts.

Campus Connect Dates:

  • Monday, March 23 from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m.
  • Friday, April 17 from 10 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

Groups can schedule alternate training dates for QPR and Campus Connect by visiting the CAPS website: https://caps.tamu.edu/suicide-awareness-prevention-training/
