Approach to Therapy and Professional Interests
I have over 15 years of experience providing therapy to a variety of age groups from diverse backgrounds; however, my passion is working with the emerging adult population in a college counseling setting. My clinical interests include adjustment and achievement of students, improving interpersonal and familial relationships, as well as advocating and supporting marginalized populations impacted by societal injustices. My therapeutic approach aligns with Relational-Cultural Theory, which highlights the value of growth-fostering relationships and connection to others. I naturally bring my authentic self into the therapeutic space and encourage clients to do the same. Equally and with passion, I provide space to discuss how power, privilege, and oppression has impacted and is currently impacting a client’s relation to self and others.
Approach to Supervision
My approach to supervision has been described as nurturing, supportive, and empowering. I think previous supervisees have appreciated my relational style, gentle feedback, and transparency. I believe it cultivated a comfortable learning/training environment. I also value the importance of providing ongoing bidirectional feedback throughout supervision in order to disarm any surprises and address concerns or challenges as they manifest. Similarly to my therapeutic approach, I initiate discussions about how social identities related to race, ethnicity, class, culture, sexuality, gender, able-bodiedness, and many other factors influence how we show up in the world and interact with clients. It is my hope that such discussions will foster self-awareness and sensitivity to the populations we serve.
I enjoy monthly facials and massages (self-care is essential), supporting my children’s extra-curricular activities, and having weekly date nights with my husband!
