Personal Statement on Diversity and Social Justice

“In these days of difficulty, we (Americans) must and shall choose the path of social justice…the path of faith, the path of hope, and the path of love toward our fellow man” -FDR

As a white, Latina woman I have developed a personal commitment to social justice and multicultural inclusion that has shaped my clinical perspectives. Consequently, I believe in approaching every individual and experience with an open heart and an open mind, while acknowledging my own implicit biases, issues of power dynamics, and the need for system change. I am enthused to strengthen upon my sense of cultural humility as a doctoral student and graduate assistant at CAPS, and I embrace my lifelong journey of growth as a culturally competent individual.

Personal Interests

Spending time in nature, running half marathons/marathons (mostly pre-covid), meal prepping, adventures with my partner, traveling and experiencing new cultures, and Disney World! And I love to start my mornings with a workout or run!
