Personal Statement on Diversity and Social Justice
I believe that everyone’s diverse identities and experiences shape them to be who they are and influence how they live today. Even within our own identity categories, no one is the same, and generalizing people into those groups only hinders the growth of social justice. Acknowledging our diversity and validating each other’s experiences allows us to understand the privileges and disadvantages that we all have. I value sharing my life stories as a person with various intersecting identities. I am also constantly expanding my horizons by educating myself on the experiences of those different from me.
Especially as of late, I have really enjoyed activities like eating and sleeping when I’m not at work or in class. I usually don’t have time to pursue my interests, but I do enjoy playing tennis, singing, baking, and recently because of my graduate program, charcuterie.
