Eating Disorder Interdisciplinary Team (EDIT)
Texas A&M offers a multidisciplinary treatment team to serve students seeking treatment for eating disorders or concerns. The team consists of professionals from Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Student Health Services (SHS) including a mental health provider, physician, and registered dietitian. Students who are interested in an assessment or treatment for an eating disorder can call CAPS at (979) 845-4427 for a triage appointment. Students seen initially through the SHS physician or registered dietitian will be referred to CAPS as appropriate.
In the event the student’s condition requires more intensive or long-term care, as determined by the EDIT team, the student will be provided with a referral for care outside the TAMU setting.
When meeting with a member of the EDIT team, students can expect the following:
Counseling and Psychological Services:
At the intake session, a counselor will ask the student for information about eating, exercising, restrictive and purging behaviors. If a student with an eating concern seems appropriate for treatment, the counselor will then refer the student to SHS for a required physical exam with the medical provider. The student will also be referred to the SHS registered dietitian for a nutrition assessment, if appropriate. The student will sign release of information forms so that members of EDIT can discuss the student’s treatment. The EDIT meets at least once monthly to monitor each student’s progress.
Student Health Services:
A medical provider will provide the student with an initial medical assessment and follow-up medical appointments, as appropriate. The student will be asked by CAPS to undergo a medical assessment and laboratory evaluation to determine medical stability. A registered dietitian will provide the student with a nutrition assessment and follow-up nutrition treatment services.
